TITLE: Summer Academy in Medical Sciences

General Description of the Activity:

The International Summer Academy in Medical Sciences for 2024 will take place with a special focus on the topic “Risk of patients and medical professionals from intrahospital – nosocomial infections.”

This event, organized by the Dean and Academic Council of Medical Sciences, aims to equip medical and nursing students with advanced and practical knowledge in the prevention and management of hospital-acquired infections.

During the four days, the selected professors, including Prof. Hajrullah Fejza, Prof. Drita Zogaj, Prof. Naser Rugova and Prof. Fadil Kryeziu, will hold lectures that address important topics such as: the importance of infection management protocols, air quality in hospital environments, the impact of oral hygiene and food and water contamination. This structured program aims to increase students’ awareness and practical skills to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections, thus contributing to improving the safety and quality of health care.

Expected results

After completing the International Summer Academy in Medical Sciences, students will be able to:

• Develop and implement effective nosocomial infection management protocols to reduce risk to patients and medical staff.

• Assess and improve indoor air quality in hospital facilities to reduce the spread of infections.

• Identify and address the impacts of climate change on the spread of intrahospital infections, implementing strategies for adaptation.

• Improve the oral hygiene of patients and medical personnel to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections.

• Manage food and water contamination in hospital settings to prevent the spread of infections, especially in patients with weakened immune systems.

This activity is mainly aimed at:

· Nursing students, who are in the process of professional preparation and wish to be equipped with advanced knowledge on the prevention of nosocomial infections.

· Young health professionals, including newly graduated doctors and nurses, who are interested in deepening their knowledge of the prevention and management of hospital-acquired infections.

· Young researchers in the field of medical sciences who wish to share and further develop their knowledge through research and clinical practice
