TITLE: Summer Law Academy

Theme: The Role of Mediation in the Legal System: Perspectives from Civil, Commercial, and Criminal Law

The 2025 Summer Law Academy focuses on one of the most important alternative dispute resolution mechanisms-mediation. This year, the academy offers an in-depth analysis of the role that mediation plays in the legal system of Kosovo and beyond, addressing both practical and theoretical aspects across the fields of civil, commercial, and criminal law.

As part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures and interactive discussions delivered by renowned legal experts – including the Chairwoman of the Kosovo Chamber of Mediators, experienced judges, practicing lawyers, and university professors.

Main Objective of the Academy:

To deepen the knowledge and practical skills of law students regarding mediation as a legal instrument, promoting its use as an effective and economical tool for resolving disputes within a modern and accessible justice system.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the Academy, participants will be able to:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the concept and role of mediation in civil, commercial, and criminal law;
  • Understand the legal and institutional framework of mediation in Kosovo and its alignment with European standards;
  • Identify the advantages of mediation compared to traditional court proceedings;
  • Participate in simulations and practical case studies to develop communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Collaborate with legal professionals through discussions and group work.

  • Earn 4 ECTS credits, which may be recognized as part of the academic curriculum;
  • Participate in a study visit to a relevant institution (such as a court, the Chamber of Mediators, or a law office) to observe the practical application of mediation.

  • Bachelor-level law students (Years I, II, III, and IV) who are interested in advancing their knowledge and gaining practical training in the field of alternative dispute resolution.
