“The liberal concept of media in the 21st century, challenges and perspectives”
The summer academy organized by the Faculty of Media and Communication is organized in the framework of Global UBT Fest 2023, which UBT has been organizing for several years now. The Summer Academy comes in different forms to discover new ways of media and communication planning education and to elaborate a critical approach to media development today. Its purpose is to be the connecting point between two types of knowledge; technical knowledge of the media (“elaborated knowledge”), and “personal knowledge,” based on the experience of the participants, which are fundamentally different. Based on these, the Academy works to define a common platform, where the goals of the media for the development of society can meet the interests of individuals, illustrating different scenarios where the goals converge.
The Summer Academy creates a space in the academic research of Media and Communication that attempts to flatten the hierarchy between student and professor, and to promote enthusiasm as a virtue. With a great purpose, the Summer Academy excludes the non-committal research methods imposed by the for-profit university system, rejecting the use of a utilitarian and overly clinical language, stating with conviction that the line of thinking that kind of approach encourages, eradicates any kind of creativity and independence. Therefore, in order to have a more productive approach, the Summer Academy has insisted on the fact that a lively and imaginative approach to the research process should be considered a very noble pedagogical aspiration.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
