TITLE:
The Integration of AI in Legal Research: An Analysis of Benefits, Limitations, and Ethical Implications
Overview
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has reshaped every aspect of daily life, professions and education. At the same time, its use presents a major challenge regarding how it is used or exploited, its responsibility, its limits, legal regulation, as well as the reliability and degree of reliance on AI, especially in certain types of professions.
In many aspects, AI has brought productivity, offering concrete solutions and alternatives through a process of: research – rapid collection and processing of data to generate answers to the issues/questions posed in a short time to reach the intended information and solution.
The summer school will enable students to discuss and obtain information on the practical use of AI in both the living (daily life) and professional environments, taking into account also the addressing other important issues such as: the accuracy of AI, its productivity, responsibility, but also the limitations related to ethics, data protection, etc. The summer school offers one more opportunity for students to strengthen the connections between academic learning and the practical side, as well as equipping them with professional knowledge and skills and guiding them to use this knowledge appropriately in practice.
The summer academy will be developed through extra-curricular activities, combining theoretical lectures with classroom discussions, providing concrete examples, sharing experiences, and when possible group work. The activity aims to provide students with solid and practical knowledge not only of understanding AI but also of how to properly use it.
Key Topics:
- Understanding Artificial Intelligence (AI),
- The impact of AI on decision-making and the risks of information centralization.
- AI and (Legal) Regulation
- Is AI developing faster than the legal framework (normative regulation);
- What are the limits of AI use (use of AI in research and AI in facial recognition, etc. questions related to responsibility, ethics, data protection);
- Challenges of AI use (is AI a safe path to the required solution – and what if a solution is required in a specific area, for example legal or medical?)
- The accuracy of AI in key/sensitive issues for the life, health and rights of citizens (such as the use of AI advice for medical treatment or legal deadlines in justice matters, etc.)
- AI at work
- How has AI reshaped everyday life?
- How and can AI be better used;
- How reliable is the information obtained through AI,
- What are the professions most affected by AI;
- AI in Media and Social Networks
- How can we be careful to obtain accurate information?
- Does AI replace obtaining information through other sources (such as using as many sources of information as possible on the relevant issue) and always informing through reliable media (i.e. sharing information sources);
- How to protect ourselves from videos and photos generated/processed through AI and media manipulation of public opinion.
- AI in education
- How the use of AI can accelerate the teaching and learning process;
- Challenges of using AI in practice (e.g. how to use AI in research);
- How accurate and reliable are online platforms built through AI empowerment (for certain professions), even though ‘declared’ to be fast in service/response and with direct reference to official sources’, (e.g. platforms built specifically for legal professionals for immediate research and professional drafting of laws, judgments, court decisions, various legal documents, contracts and lawsuits, etc.) and which offer irreplaceable assistance available to lawyers, jurists, businesses and students.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the Summer Academy, participants will be able to:
